Ok, looking at your demonstration page I see that to get the program to actually "dial" a contact number (especially one with multiple entries, which most folks have), you have to:

1) Press a button to bring up the application
2) Wait for it to load your contacts
3) Press another button to allow you to actually speak a command (huh?)
4) Speak your contact name
5) Press another button asking you to further qualify the contact item (mobile, main, etc).
6) Speak your contact name (again)

Looks like a total of 3 button presses and several seconds of delay before any dialing actually takes place.

Can you explain how this is going to be much quicker and more accurate than just bringing up your contacts list and pressing the contact item you want to dial?

Thanks!

Hello StuartR-

You make several good points, let me address each individually:

1) Pressing button to load app - every app on the iPhone requires a button to load so there is no avoiding this
2) Waiting to load - look for free update version 1.2 soon on iTunes, it is MUCH faster down to 2-3 seconds which is par with any native app
...at this point we are at par with your phone/contact app
3) Press button to start a command- future updates will use voice prompts to replace button so this step can be removed later
4) Speak contact name - within 1 second the name is recognized and auto dialed for one number contacts, if multiple numbers you just need to say the phonetype
....at this point I dare to say we are faster than your hand- can you find a contact out of 1000s in under 1 second? Let alone tap it and select the number?
5) In future free versions this step will no longer exist because you will be able to directly call by phone type "Call Stuart Mobile" etc.
- again response time is within 1 second
6) This step does not exist. Where are you getting this from? Once you say the phone type the call is automatically placed, no need to say contact name again.

So Let's compare with your native phone app....

For your phone app you must:
1) #1 tap to launch
2) Wait 2 seconds to load
3) Search for the contact- depending on how many you have could take easily 3-10+ seconds
4) #2 tap contact
5) #3 Tap phone number to dial- you MUST select number even with only one number contacts, you cannot dial just by pressing the contact name

Looks like the same number of taps even where we are in our current version.
The time is much longer to search through contacts- no way in under 1 second
Brain processing required to search through contact names, select correct number is much more difficult than pressing the same big green button every time.

Furthermore our future versions will even shave more steps off. I am willing to make a video and share with you to compare the two and time it to see which is faster. I've already done this and VoiceThis beats the native phone app every time.

Hope this helps to shed some light....

I purchased VoiceThis v1.2.0 for my iPhone 3G a couple of weeks ago, because California (where I live) law now requires hands-free cell phone use while driving. When using your product, I have to look away from the road to read the tiny command response text on the VoiceThis display. I don't mind looking for the large green 'Tap to speak' button to initiate the call, but, while driving, voice responses are needed thereafter. In your previous repsonse, you state that you are, in fact, adding voice prompts to the product, and I want to encourage you to do so quickly. Thanks.

I purchased VoiceThis ver 1.4. I noticed at startup you still have to press "Tap to Speak".
Will you be adding an option to bypass the "Tap to Speak"?

Great app, everything works flawlessly.

Hello KidNovak,

Yes, we do have plans to add an option to bypass the button press on start-up in the very near future, most likely a setting that you can toggle on/off. The main reason for the "tap to speak" button is to ensure optimal performance even when in high levels of background noise as it is much more difficult to do noise cancellation when the program is "always listening" compared with only listening when the user is speaking.

In early versions of VoiceThis, our main focus has been to establish a stable, fast, and accurate voice dialer. Now that this has been achieved, we will begin enhancing all levels of the user interference and make even more features customizable for different users.

We are happy that you are having a good experience with VoiceThis and very much appreciate your support in our efforts to provide the best user experience. We hope you will continue to offer suggestions.

I have an issue with the app. I loaded it and everything accordingly. I Tap to Speak, it finds my contact. It will count down to dial, THEN a small window pops up with the phone number and the option to "Cancel" or "Call" which means I have to press one of them to cancel or complete my call. On the demostration, once the number is found, it's dialed.

I have the same issue. Exactly as you stated, on the Voicethis Demo the "call" or "cancel" button does not pop up and when we use it it does! This app would be good if it that prompt was eliminated.

Just dial the number automatically once the countdown is complete as shown in the demo please!!!!!

Thanks.

Hello All,

The auto-dialing issue was an Apple bug in iPhone OS 3.0, all later versions of the operating system have fixed this issue (3.1 and 3.1.2).

You need simply upgrade for free to the newer iPhone OS and the auto-dialing will work correctly in our voice dialer app. You can do this by running iTunes with the iPhone synced and choose "check for updates".
